Indonesia’s Parliament and IIFP: Normalization With Israel is Haram, We Must Stand with Palestine!

Normalization With Israel is Haram

SANTRI EN – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) and members of the International Islamic Parliamentarians Federation (IIFP) have unequivocally stated that normalization with Israel is religiously prohibited.

This stance reaffirms Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence from Israeli occupation.

Statement Members DPR RI About Normalization With Israel

In a statement released today, DPR RI member from the PKS faction, Jazuli Juwaini, asserted that Indonesia will not succumb to pressure from certain parties to open diplomatic relations with Israel.

Juwaini stated that normalization with Israel contradicts Indonesia’s constitutional mandate, which explicitly rejects colonialism in all forms.

“The DPR RI expresses its appreciation to Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi for her firm stance in rejecting normalization with Israel,” said Juwaini.

“We stand firmly with Foreign Minister Retno in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and opposing Israeli occupation.”

This strong stance is also supported by the Vice President of the IIFP, an organization that represents parliamentarians from Muslim-majority countries. The IIFP wholeheartedly supports Indonesia’s position in rejecting normalization with Israel.

“Normalizing relations with Israel would hurt the feelings of the Indonesian people and go against the principles of international justice,” said Juwaini, who also emphasized that Indonesia must remain pro-Palestine and support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

Indonesia’s Commitment Regarding Normalization with Israel

Indonesia has long been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian independence struggle. As the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, Indonesia has reiterated its commitment to opposing colonialism and upholding the right of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny.

The DPR RI’s firm stance reflects the aspirations of many in Indonesia who oppose normalizing relations with Israel. The Indonesian people at large feel compelled to support the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi: will not carry out normalization with Israel

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has consistently affirmed that Indonesia will not take any steps to normalize relations with Israel as long as Palestine remains occupied and has not achieved full independence.

Indonesia continues to urge the international community to support a just and sustainable two-state solution between Palestine and Israel, with Palestine having full sovereignty over its territory.

Meanwhile, DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani also supports Foreign Minister Retno’s firm stance in rejecting normalization with Israel.

Puan stated that Indonesia’s position on the Palestinian issue is constitutional and aligns with the humanitarian values that underpin Indonesia’s diplomacy in international forums.

“Indonesia has been and will continue to be a voice for the Palestinian people on the international stage,” said Puan Maharani. “We will not set aside humanitarian values and justice in determining Indonesia’s foreign policy regarding Palestine and Israel.”

DPR RI and IIFP affirm: There will be no normalization with Israel

The DPR RI and IIFP underscore that normalization with Israel would not only hurt the feelings of the Indonesian people but also tarnish Indonesia’s moral commitment to upholding human rights and the principles of peace in the Middle East.

Amidst various pressures and offers from some countries to open diplomatic relations with Israel, Indonesia remains steadfast in its principle of not officially recognizing or engaging with Israel until the issue of occupation of the Palestinian people is resolved fairly and with dignity.

The DPR RI and IIFP’s firm stance is part of the collective efforts of the international community to call for justice for the Palestinian people and reject normalization efforts that disregard the aspirations and rights of the Palestinian people.

As a country with a strong commitment to peace and justice, Indonesia upholds humanitarian values and supports the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence and sovereignty over their homeland.

Indonesia’s consistent and firm position in rejecting normalization with Israel has gained international attention and garnered widespread support from various parties concerned with peace and human rights in the Middle East.

The DPR RI and IIFP, in conveying their strong stance against normalizing relations with Israel, also highlight the importance of maintaining solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of prolonged oppression.

Indonesia’s support for the Palestinian independence struggle is not just rhetoric but a commitment reflected in the country’s foreign policy.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, as Indonesia’s representative in the international arena, actively promotes the Palestinian independence agenda and highlights the ongoing human rights abuses in the region. She has also pushed for diplomatic efforts to garner global support in urging Israel to end its occupation and violence against the Palestinian people.

The DPR RI also emphasizes that normalization with Israel is unacceptable as it would legitimize Israel’s repressive actions against the Palestinian people.

This decision is Indonesia’s moral and constitutional response as a nation that values the principles of democracy, humanity, and national sovereignty.

Indonesia has long been one of the leading opponents of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. Furthermore, Indonesia also reminds that normalizing relations with Israel before a just and sustainable solution is reached for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict would send the wrong signal and contradict the spirit of peace desired by the international community.

Indonesia’s unwavering stance in rejecting normalization with Israel also serves as a reference point for other nations, particularly Muslim-majority countries, to remain consistent in supporting the Palestinian independence struggle.

This aligns with the spirit of Islamic solidarity and humanitarian values that are the foundation of Indonesia’s foreign policy.

Ultimately, the DPR RI and IIFP assure the world that Indonesia will continue to stand firmly with the Palestinian people in their fight for freedom and justice.

Diplomatic and advocacy efforts undertaken by Indonesia in international forums will be continuously strengthened to pressure Israel and support the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state.
